Syrian Rebels Declare Damascus "Liberated"

Syrian rebels have declared the capital, Damascus, “liberated” after entering the city with little resistance from regime forces. They claim that President Bashar al-Assad has fled the capital, marking a potential end to his decades-long grip on power.

An active search for Assad is currently underway, according to sources familiar with the rebels’ operations. The Syrian leader has not been seen or heard from publicly since the rebels entered the capital early on Sunday morning.

If the reports of Assad's removal are confirmed, it would signify the end of more than 50 years of autocratic rule by his family over a nation of approximately 23 million people, which has been significantly impacted by over a decade of civil war.

In response to the unfolding situation, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali stated that the government is prepared to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people.
